Koraput: An awareness camp on handicrafts and handloom was organized by the district administration at the local Skill Development Training Centre conference hall. District Collector V. Keerthi Vasan, attending as the chief guest, stated that Koraput is making continuous progress in the field of tourism. He highlighted that handloom, weaving, and handicrafts are becoming major attractions for tourists.
The event emphasized the rich cultural heritage of the district. Terracotta from Lakshmipur, handloom from Kotpad, and bamboo crafts from Baipariguda have already attracted the attention of tourists. To strengthen the local economy and further promote tourism, the district administration has planned to establish a handloom village near Kotpad.
By October this year, the administration aims to set up a terracotta handloom village in Lakshmipur and a bamboo handloom village in Baipariguda, equipped with basic amenities and marketing infrastructure. Notable personalities such as Padma Shri awardee Gobardhan Panika, terracotta artist Shibani Priyadarshini Sahu from Koraput, and Deputy Director of the Handicrafts Department Sameer Patra were present at the event.
