Puri: A unique sight has emerged in Astaranga Block of Puri District. Despite the construction of a new animal shelter, the old, dilapidated building continues to house animals.
The delay in inaugurating the new facility has become a hot topic of discussion. When our reporter visited the site, they found empty liquor bottles, plastic glasses, smoking pipes (chilum), and brown sugar-related foil papers scattered around the premises.
When questioned about the situation, Dr. Sarat Behera, a local livestock medical officer from Puri District co nfirmed the incident. He stated, “We have repeatedly informed the contractor and discussed the issue with higher authorities, but the contractor has ignored our concerns.”
Meanwhile, Lenka Prasad, the Director of Odisha Livestock Hospital, stated that a letter has been sent to the contracting agency, giving them two months to complete the pending work. They have also been formally notified. If the work is not completed within the deadline, the contractor will be blacklisted.
