Governor Lauds Koraput Coffee but Notes Concern Over Low Cultivation

Jeypore,10th Sept 2025: During his visit to Koraput, Hon’ble Governor Dr. Raghubar Das arrived at Jeypore Airport, where he was received with a Guard of Honour. Following his arrival, he proceeded directly to the Coffee Board office in Koraput, where he visited the coffee stall and plantations, and held discussions with SHG women, coffee farmers, and officials.

The Governor praised the unique taste of Koraput coffee after tasting it. However, he expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that while there is potential for coffee cultivation on 4 lakh hectares in the district, only 4,000 hectares are currently under cultivation — and even that primarily by private farmers.

He questioned why such a vast potential remained underutilized and stressed the need to expand coffee cultivation in the region. The Governor stated that he would hold discussions with the District Collector and Coffee Board officials to explore ways of boosting production.

He also inquired about the availability of government land for coffee cultivation and emphasized the need for a mapping strategy to attract coffee farmers from outside districts. Since most land in the district belongs to tribal communities, he pointed out that
