New Delhi: A notification regarding the country’s 16th census will be issued on Monday. As per the government’s announcement, the census will be conducted from March 1, 2027 across the country. However, in snow-covered states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir, the census will be conducted from October 1, 2026.
This 16th census will include caste-based enumeration. The entire process will be conducted digitally, using a mobile app. Individuals will also have the option to self-enumerate by providing their personal information.
To ensure readiness for the census, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the preparations on Sunday. The meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Registrar General and Census Commissioner Mrutyunjay Kumar Narayan, and other senior officials.
For the upcoming census, the government will appoint 34 lakh enumerators and 1.3 lakh supervisors.
