Government to Purchase Land Directly from Tribals to Prevent Land Grabbing

Bhubaneswar: Wealthy individuals will no longer be able to pressure and grab land belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). The government itself will now purchase land from tribals, says Minister Suresh Pujari. The state government will buy land from SC and ST communities. A corpus fund will soon be created by the government for this purpose. If someone wishes to sell land for their daughter’s marriage, medical treatment, or children’s higher education, the government will purchase it. A government committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department. The committee will include the Principal Secretary and Director of ST & SC Department, experts, and senior legal officers. They will review the matter and submit a report.
