Government to Provide Rental Housing; Major Relief for Urban Workers

Vacant government houses will now be converted into rental homes
Affordable housing will be available in cities
A major step for the poor and workers in urban areas
The scheme will be implemented under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0
Vacant buildings of the Central and State Governments will be converted into “Affordable Rental Housing”
Workers, employed women, and economically weaker people coming to cities for jobs will benefit
The local administration will fix the rent for these houses
The rent will increase by 8% every two years, with a maximum increase of up to 20% over five years.
