Government Initiates Repairs at Jeypore’s New Bus Stand to Enhance Facilities

Jeypore: The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has started repair work on the new bus stand. The work includes opening new drains, fixing faults in the rooms, and upgrading the surrounding area. An additional room is being constructed near the DM (District Magistrate) office. The existing paver blocks will be completely removed and replaced with concrete in the premises. Along with renovation, the paver blocks will be removed from the area.

The main entrance road near Vikramdev University has already had the paver blocks removed. According to an official, a new drainage system will be constructed here, which will connect to the drainage near the Veterinary Colony side. The entire damaged paver block area will be removed as it was causing problems for bus movement. While buses arrive or depart, pressure on the bus bays causes damage to the paver blocks. To avoid this, the premises will be concreted.

An additional room is under construction near the DM office’s open space. Repairs are underway for the rooms due to water leakage during the rainy season. Renovation of the dormitories meant for travelers is also ongoing. There is a focused effort to provide travelers with better facilities.

For information, the new Jeypore bus stand was inaugurated on March 13, 2024. However, due to construction defects, irregularities, and other reasons, various problems surfaced within a few days. These issues were regularly reported in different media outlets.

On April 29, an independent report was published in the newspaper ‘Prameya’ with the headline “Disorder at New OSRTC Bus Stand.” The report highlighted problems such as leaking toilets, damaged bus bays, and broken paver blocks. On February 24, Arun Bishwal, the Additional Secretary of State Commerce and Transport, visited the bus stand. He assured that it would be maintained to ISBT (Inter-State Bus Terminal) standards.

He inspected arrangements such as perfume facilities, encroachment on corporation land, cleanliness, garage, passenger waiting areas, and other places. After seeing the poor condition, the officials and staff were reprimanded, and a promise was made to start renovation work immediately.
