Puri, 16th Oct 2025: From now on, there will be no contractual teacher appointments. Over the next three years, 45,000 teachers will be recruited. This year alone, 15,000 teachers will be appointed, and 20,000 have already been recruited. Students will progress through quality education starting from primary schools. The picture of primary education will change, modeled after ‘Vanavidyalayas’ (forest schools), said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Speaking at a seminar on the National Education Policy 2020 organized by Shri Sadashiva Central Sanskrit University, the Chief Minister indirectly criticized the previous BJD government. He said, “We are now giving priority to the education system. The previous government ruled for a long time, but despite development, primary education was neglected.”

The Chief Minister expressed concern over the past definition and approach towards education. He said:
“Look at the state of primary education today. When I visit schools as an MLA, it pains me to see the condition. This is the third time I’ve felt such distress. After becoming an MLA, I raised this issue with the government. You (the previous government) implemented 5T (Technology, Transparency, Teamwork, Time, and Transformation), you made transformation plans. But do the children coming from primary to high schools even know subtraction and multiplication? Can they write properly? The answer is ‘No’.”
“If a single teacher is teaching students of four different grades in one room, can education improve? How will these children become smart? How will they develop when their learning is reduced to just dictation from a single voice?”
