Gop : As part of the Van Mahotsav Week observed from July 1 to 7 by the Government of Odisha, the renowned social service organization Shobha Foundation, active in Konark and Kakatpur blocks, has undertaken continuous tree plantation programs.
Under the leadership of Shobha Foundation Chairman and ‘Prakruti Bandhu’ awardee, senior journalist Gyan Ranjan Biswal, trees were planted every day during the seven-day celebration of Van Mahotsav.
Tree plantation drives were organized in multiple locations including:
Konark Government High School
Jamara village under Kakatpur block
Godhanapada village
Badhei Thakurani Peetha
Balidokana Bazaar
Suargram Birija Peetha
The plantation focused on environmentally beneficial trees such as Baula (Bakul), Pistachio (Pista Badam), and Mango (Amba) saplings. These trees will help in:
Reducing pollution
Preventing soil erosion
Controlling global warming
Providing shade, fruits, and oxygen for humans, birds, and wild animals.
These efforts aim to protect Mother Earth from various natural disasters. Gyan Ranjan Biswal stated that such plantation programs will continue throughout the year, with plans to plant 2,000 palm saplings (Talmanji) in the near future.
