New Delhi: While digital transactions are being promoted in India, service charges are gradually being introduced. Earlier, platforms like PhonePe and Paytm had imposed UPI (Unified Payments Interface) fees on digital bill payments for electricity and cooking gas. Now, Google Pay has also joined them.

Previously, small-value transactions did not attract any charges. However, now, if bills are paid using debit or credit cards, a service fee ranging from 0.5 pentcer to 1 percent will be applied, along with Goods and Services Tax (GST).
