Hatadihi, 18th July 2025: In Gedama Panchayat under Hatadihi block of Keonjhar district, the government primary school is facing severe issues due to the lack of classrooms and shortage of teachers. The school currently has 64 students from Kindergarten (Shishu Vatika) to Class 5.
Since its inception, the school has only had two classrooms, due to which Kindergarten to Class 3 are taught in one room, and Class 4 and 5 share another — leading to a highly pitiable academic environment. With three different classes sharing a single room, parents allege that this is hindering the students’ mental and academic development.
Additionally, for the past six months, the school has been suffering from a teacher shortage. Out of the sanctioned four teacher posts, one teacher has been deputed to a nearby school, and another has been transferred to Bhadrak district, leaving only two teachers (the Headmaster and one assistant teacher) to handle all 64 students.
The entire future of these children depends on just two teachers. Despite multiple visits over the last six months to the Hatadihi Block Education Office by school committee members and villagers, no action has been taken.
As a result, members of the school committee — including Tapan Kumar Barik, Itishree Das, Sarpanch representative Surendra Kandi, Nirmal Barik, Sunil Mahanti, and Santosh Das — have expressed strong dissatisfaction and hinted that they may resort to agitation if the issues are not resolved soon.
