Brahmapur: The executive committee meeting of the Ganjam District Backward Class Development Forum was held on Saturday at the conference hall near Santoshi Maa Temple at Bijipur Square, under the supervision of District President Prabhakar Sahu.
The meeting began with a prayer to Lord Ganesha, followed by two minutes of silent prayer for world peace. Forum leader Savita Sahu read out the proceedings of the previous meeting and it was ratified.
The meeting expressed appreciation towards the BJP government for providing 11.25% reservation in non-professional education. However, there was dissatisfaction over the fact that OBCs constitute 54% of the population, but the reservation remains only at 11.25%, which was described as a drop in the ocean in a democratic system.
Hence, during the meeting, a proposal was passed demanding 27% reservation in both professional and non-professional education sectors.
It was also decided that a five-member committee would be formed to meet the Chief Minister regarding this demand.
Among those present at the meeting were Bhishmacharya Choudhury, D. Appa Rao, Sudhakar Sahu, Arun Kumar Sahu, Brundaban Behera, Pratap Maharana, Seemanchal Prasad Behera, Suryakant Patra, Manmohan Parichha, Ganapati Behera, and others. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Savita Sahu.
