Tihidi: Ganesh Baba, the well-known spiritual leader and chief promoter of the Mahima Organization in Bhadrak district, passed away on Friday and was laid to rest in the very chamber (vault) he had personally prepared for his final rest. Though unexpected, the 9:20 AM news of his demise shocked many.

He had been taken to a hospital in the capital for treatment five days ago. After appearing to recover, he returned to his ashram in Patra Sahi, Tihidi, on Thursday night. Strangely, two palm fronds fell right in front of him, even touching his feet. Witnesses say he calmly told his disciples, “By tomorrow morning, I’ll be gone. Do not worry or be busy. Lay me to rest in the temple chamber I have built.”

His words came true. At exactly 9:20 AM today, he passed away. The news of his passing not only reached Tihidi block but also Mahima devotees and disciples from monasteries and ashrams across Bhadrak district, who flocked to pay their respects.

About five years ago, Ganesh Baba had constructed a temple within the monastery premises, where he also built a burial chamber, declaring it as his final resting place. Today, as per his wish, he was laid to rest in that very spot.

Former Bhadrak MP Manjulata Mandal, former MLA Muktikant Mandal, local leaders like Raghunath Patra and Babuli Behera were present for the final rites. Over a hundred locals and monks from various monasteries were in attendance during the burial inside the temple.

People from the local religious community expressed deep sorrow. Notable condolences came from social worker Satchikant Nayak, Kailash Behera, Pavitra Panigrahi, Bhatapada Sarpanch Shubhranarayan Sethy, and activist Bapuji Nayak, among others.
