Free Bus Service Rolled Out for School Students

Bhubaneswar, 19th Sept 2025:  From now on, school students will be able to avail free bus services. By simply showing their school ID card or wearing school uniform, they will not be required to pay any fare while traveling in the bus. This facility will be available only in OSRTC (Odisha State Road Transport Corporation) buses, under the Chief Minister’s Bus Service Scheme, according to the Commerce and Transport Department.

The department stated that this decision was made during a high-level meeting held on August 21, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, where it was resolved to provide free bus service for students.

The initiative is now being implemented so that more and more school students can travel safely and conveniently by bus. To support this, OSRTC will make necessary changes to bus routes and time schedules. For this purpose, District Education Officers (DEOs) will provide required data to OSRTC for re-mapping of routes.

Additionally, the Commerce and Transport Department has decided to provide necessary financial grants to OSRTC to compensate for the losses incurred under this scheme.

Applicable in OSRTC Buses Only
Changes will be made to OSRTC and ASTC (if applicable) bus routes and schedules to ensure smooth implementation.
