Four Multipurpose Buildings Inaugurated in Malkangiri on Self-Governance Day

Malkangiri, 2nd Sept 2025:  On the occasion of Self-Governance Day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated multiple infrastructure projects in the Malkangiri Sadar Subdivision, including multipurpose halls and a town hall. The virtual inauguration was conducted from the Rail Auditorium in Bhubaneswar during a state-level event organized by the Housing and Urban Development Department.

Through the virtual platform, the Chief Minister inaugurated three multipurpose halls and one town hall, totaling four major public-use facilities.

The district-level Self-Governance Day celebration was organized by the Malkangiri District Administration and Municipality under the direct supervision of District Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay.

Prominent attendees included:

  • Malkangiri MLA Narsingha Madkami (as Chief Guest),
  • Municipality Chairperson Manoj Barik,
  • Vice-Chairperson Kavita Mohanty,
  • and all 19 municipal councillors.
  • The newly inaugurated facilities include:
  • A 300-seat multipurpose hall at Sukuma Road (near Chakriguda),
  • A 500-seat multipurpose hall behind Tarini Temple,
  • A 500-seat multipurpose hall near Swadhar Griha,
  • And a 300-seat town hall in Malkangiri.

These developments are expected to benefit the people of Malkangiri district by offering affordable venues for events such as marriages, meetings, and community gatherings. Additionally, these buildings can serve as shelters during natural disasters, stated District Collector Upadhyay, who also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister via video conference.

The Collector further informed that a total of six multipurpose halls have been constructed in the urban areas of Malkangiri and Balimela.

During the event, two women from Malkangiri Municipality, Sneh Lata Mahanti and Pramila Kachim, shared their experiences with the Chief Minister.

Other dignitaries present included:

  • Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Bedabar Pradhan,
  • Chief Development Officer and Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Naresh Chandra Sabar,
  • District Information & Public Relations Officer Pramila Majhi, and
  • Zilla Parishad Finance Officer Manas Mishra.

The program was conducted by Municipal Executive Officer Rajiv Lochan Nayak, with active support from all municipal staff.

A proud moment for the district was also highlighted during the event — Khairput Block’s indigenous Bonda tribal community crafted “bead work” (Bid Work Prem), which was presented to the Chief Minister, ministers, and dignitaries at the state-level celebration.

To promote these tribal products, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Usha Padhee had independently issued an order to use this beadwork during today’s event, bringing tribal artistry into the spotlight.
