Jeypore, 11th Sept 2025: On the occasion of Local Self-Governance Day, a significant meeting was held today at a hotel near Bell Road in Jeypore, Koraput district. The meeting was attended by former all-party councillors and former chairpersons of the Jeypore Municipality.
During this meeting, it was proposed to form an association of former councillors, and the main objective discussed was the upgradation of Jeypore Municipality to a Municipal Corporation. Former councillor Shri Bala Ray informed the media about this key development.
He stated that a resolution will be passed today in support of transforming Jeypore Municipality into a Municipal Corporation to facilitate its future growth and development. The meeting also involved extensive discussions on the steps needed to accelerate the development of Jeypore in the coming days.
When asked by the media about reports of a no-confidence motion against the current Municipal Chairperson, Shri Bala Ray responded that he had no such information. He emphasized that whether such a motion is brought or not is a matter of internal discussion, and if the party decides on something, they would sit and deliberate on it. However, as of now, there is no such proposal before him, he clarified.
Shri Bala Ray further noted that the former councillors once represented the people and served them as public servants. He said that it was commendable that they have now come together to discuss the future development of Jeypore.
Former Minister and current BJD State Vice-President, Shri Rabinarayan Nanda, also praised the initiative. He remarked that the former councillors had a deep understanding of the issues within their respective wards, and their effort to unite and deliberate on how to push forward Jeypore’s development is a welcome step.
He emphasized that only by rising above political lines can the true development of Jeypore be achieved. Everyone desires the region’s growth, and hence collective efforts are necessary. The essence of local self-governance, Shri Nanda said, is self-rule. Regardless of political differences, since we all live in Jeypore, its development should be our collective goal.
He concluded by saying that without development, the common people will be dissatisfied, and therefore their basic rights and development needs must be addressed.
