Kotpad: The Food Safety Department conducted raids on various business establishments, hotels, restaurants, and bakeries in Kotpad town. During these inspections, the local administration issued warnings and collected fines from violators.
Reports revealed that several hotels in the area were preparing food in unsanitary conditions and serving stale and low-quality food to customers, which led to growing dissatisfaction among consumers. Many had repeatedly filed complaints with the local administration.
However, due to the absence of a designated food safety officer in the region, the Kotpad NAC (Notified Area Council) administration had previously been avoiding action. As a result, some hotels and restaurants had been operating carelessly and irresponsibly.
With the recent outbreak of foodborne illnesses and diarrhoea in various areas due to consumption of unsafe food, the government and administration became alert. In response, the Food Safety Department, in collaboration with the Kotpad NAC, carried out extensive raids at multiple locations.
During these inspections:
Business owners were instructed to immediately obtain food and trade licenses with administrative support.
Strict warnings were issued against employing child laborers in these establishments.
The raid was conducted under the leadership of NAC Executive Officer Kamalesh Mahanta, with support from key officials including:
Chief Assistant Gopi Majhi
Sanitation Head Swaraj Raj Kumarak
Accountant Prashant Kochim
Rajesh Chetti
K. Ramesh,
and Food Safety Officers were also present and actively participated in the operation.
A total of ₹35,000 in fines was collected during today’s raids. Mr. Mahanta informed the media that similar surprise inspections would continue in the future to ensure food safety and hygiene standards are maintained across the region.
