Flood Concern Rises as Water Level Increases in Jola Put Reservoir

Nandapur, 1st Sept 2025: The water level in the Jola Put Reservoir located in the Nandapur block has been steadily increasing due to the heavy rainfall in the region. As of Tuesday morning (8 AM), the water level had reached 2748.15 feet, up from 2745 feet the previous day.

In response to the rising water level, the authorities have opened the 5th and 6th gates of the reservoir to release water, discharging a total of 5000 cusecs of water. However, by Tuesday noon (12 PM), the water level increased to 2748.46 feet, prompting the opening of a third gate for further water release. Now, a total of 10,000 cusecs is being released through all three gates.

Flooding in Adjacent Areas:

There is a growing flood situation near the Kundura block and surrounding areas, with water levels rising in the Biri River, affecting Kundura, Limba, Asana, and Digapur. This has led to road blockages and disrupted communication in these regions.

The local revenue officers have issued warnings to residents, urging them to remain vigilant as additional gates may be opened if rainfall continues.

Flood Impact on Agriculture:

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several paddy fields. Areas like Chatua, Kantapali, Malibelgaon, and Bodel Panchayat have reported submerged fields. Additionally, in Hateebari Panchayat, the water has caused damage to homes, including two houses collapsing due to the deluge.

The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and emergency response teams have been deployed in the affected regions. Emergency relief has been provided to families whose homes have been affected, and local disaster response teams are ensuring that essential services are not disrupted.

Action Plan:

Further monitoring and management of water levels at the Jola Put reservoir.

Opening of additional gates as needed based on the water flow.

Roads and bridges will be checked for safety and accessibility.

Agricultural damage assessments will be conducted once the floodwaters recede.

Residents are advised to remain cautious and follow the directives issued by local authorities.
