Nabarangpur, Jan, 07:  Mukunda Jani and his wife Landai Jani, residents of Nabarangpur Municipality Colony, who were husband and wife, died in a road accident on October 3 last year near Taragaon on National Highway-26, which runs from Nabarangpur to Papadahandi.

Their family belongs to a very poor section, and their financial condition is not stable. They were in need of financial support for family maintenance and livelihood. Taking this into consideration, Nabarangpur MLA Gouri Shankar Majhi informed the Nabarangpur District Collector through a letter, requesting approval of ₹8 lakh as compassionate assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the family of the deceased Mukunda Jani.

Accordingly, Nabarangpur District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain, through his letter No. 18523 dated 09-12-2025, requested the State Government to approve the compassionate assistance. The State Government considered the matter seriously and, in the New Year, through the General Administration and Public Grievance Department, Lok Seva Bhavan, Odisha, Bhubaneswar, Letter No. 45 dated 09-01-2026, approved the compassionate assistance.

As per this order, an amount of ₹8 lakh has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in favor of the bereaved family, according to information received from the District Emergency Office. The bereaved Jani family has expressed gratitude to the Odisha Government for this generous gesture and has thanked Nabarangpur MLA Shri Majhi, the State Government, and the District Collector.
