Final Touches for First Durga Puja by Parabeda Committee; Grand Kedarnath-Inspired Gate to Welcome Devotees

Jeypore, 27th Sept 2025:  For the first time, the Parabeda region will host Durga Puja, and the organizing committee is leaving no stone unturned to make it a memorable event. A magnificent entry gate (torana) resembling the Kedarnath Temple has been constructed near Satyadhikari Chhak, which is expected to mesmerize the city’s residents.

From September 28 (Saptami), Goddess Durga will be worshipped at the mandap. The festivities will include local women performing Dandiya dance and cultural programs by Sambalpuri artists, making it a major attraction. The entire area is being decorated with colorful lights, and the committee members are working day and night to transform this into one of the city’s premier puja mandaps.

The site for the mandap was selected within the Music College premises. Skilled artisans from Cuttack are in the final stages of completing the idol and gate construction.

Alongside the Kedarnath-style main gate, another illuminated torana will also be installed. A budget of over one lakh rupees has been allocated for the entire arrangement. The puja will begin in the evening of September 28 with Bilwabarana, Adhibasa, and Kalash Yatra rituals.

On September 29 in the morning, after the Nitikadhi ritual, devotees will get to see the deity. That evening will feature a Bhajan Sandhya led by Mahaprasad Kar, son of the late renowned singer Prafulla Kar, along with his troupe.

On September 30 (Ashtami), there will be Ashtami Puja and in the evening, an orchestra performance by artists from Sambalpur and Balangir will be held.

On October 1 (Navami), after Navami Puja, the evening will showcase a Dandiya dance performance by local women. On October 2, Dashami and Aparajita Puja will be performed, followed by the idol immersion (Visarjan) on October 3.

The committee has also informed that priests from Ganjam will perform the rituals for the puja.
