Jeypore, 4th Nov 2025: From now on, cows and bulls will not be able to wander freely inside Jeypore city’s first daily market. City residents visiting the market to buy daily necessities will be protected from attacks by stray cattle.
To ensure this, the Jeypore Municipal Administration has decided to construct six gates inside the daily market to prevent cattle from entering.
The Jeypore daily market was established 75 years ago, and since then, city residents have depended on it for their daily shopping. From 6 AM to 10 PM, the market is crowded with customers coming to buy necessary items. Previously, stray cows and bulls would enter the market through the entry paths and sometimes enter shops, causing inconvenience and sometimes even attacking customers. This created a stressful environment for shoppers.
To prevent such problems, the municipal administration has taken steps to regulate market entry points. Several access routes from all four sides of the market will be organized, with iron gates being installed.
Currently, the main entry point is from MG Road, with other entrances including Maharani Peta, Post Office Lane, and in front of Puruna Bata shops. Previously, these entry points were open, allowing stray cows and bulls to roam freely and disturb shoppers.
Under the new arrangement, six gates will be built at the main entrances. Each gate will allow only one customer at a time to enter the market, while exiting customers can leave from a separate gate on the opposite side. This design ensures controlled and safe entry and exit for shoppers. Torans (decorative arches) will also be constructed along with the gates.
The municipal administration has allocated over 11 lakh rupees for the construction of these gates and torans. This development will enhance the beauty of the daily market and ensure that cattle cannot enter the market, allowing ordinary citizens to shop comfortably and safely for daily necessities and other items, as announced by Municipal Chairperson Narendra Mahanti.
