Farmers to Hold Sit-In at Agriculture Office Over Fertilizer Shortage

Jeypore,28th Aug 2025:  There is a shortage of fertilizer (urea) in the district, causing distress among farmers. Due to the unavailability of urea, farmers have been seen blocking main roads in protest.

In response, the District Farmers’ Association has called for a sit-in at the office of the Chief District Agriculture Officer to highlight the shortage. While the BJD has not officially supported this protest, farmers continue to face difficulties as the sowing season is underway and fertilizers remain scarce.

Officials admit that a proper survey of the number of farmers in the district has not been conducted, which has contributed to the shortage. Farmers also complain that fake fertilizers are being distributed in some areas. Fertilizers mixed with colored soil or sand, when dissolved in water, yield only sand and soil, making them ineffective.

The farmers’ association president has announced that, if the shortage continues, a sit-in at the Chief District Agriculture Officer’s office will take place tomorrow to demand immediate action.
