Bhubaneswar: This year, even before the monsoon season has begun, fertilizer shortages are already being observed. Unauthorized traders, without government approval, are obtaining fertilizers and selling them in the black market. However, small-scale government-approved retailers have not yet received the required stock of fertilizers. As a result, the market is witnessing a price hike. While the official price of urea fertilizer is Rs. 999.50, it is currently being sold by unscrupulous traders at prices ranging from Rs. 1400 to Rs. 1450. If government-approved dealers continue to remain without supply, the price of urea could soon rise to Rs. 1500.

In view of this, Ma Penduni Agro Input Association has submitted a memorandum to the Odisha Government, informing School and Mass Education and Social Security Minister Nityananda Gond about the issue. They have demanded swift action to resolve the fertilizer crisis and requested the reopening of closed government agencies such as Odisha Agro, Markfed, and Nafed.

The Minister assured that he will soon discuss the matter with the District Collector and Agriculture Minister to resolve the issue and take strict action against black marketers.

During the submission of the memorandum, Ma Penduni Agro Input Association President Shankar Choudhury, Vice President Sanjit Mandal, Secretary Sudeb Nandi, and Treasurer Shankar Pradhan were present.
