Farmers Gherao LAMPs Office in Support of Rishi

Baipariguda, 24th Sept 2025:  In Baipariguda, farmers, frustrated after nearly four months of not receiving payment for their groundnut sales, finally resorted to submitting complaints to the Koraput MLA and the District Collector. They also staged a gherao (encirclement protest) at the police station and the LAMPs (Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies) office.

While a few farmers reportedly received their dues, 62 farmers have claimed they have not yet received payment for the groundnuts they sold. Among these grievances, allegations have surfaced that 10 to 15 fake farmers were shown as having sold groundnuts and were illegally paid, even though they had no involvement in farming at all.

The unpaid farmers have questioned how money was disbursed to individuals whose names were not even on the official procurement list. They are demanding a high-level investigation into the matter and strict action against the guilty, creating significant unrest.

Some farmers also stated that although they were issued tokens for selling, they were told to hand over their groundnut stock without receiving payment.

Questions are being raised about how and why procurement was carried out at two separate locations—one in Jeypore and one in Baipariguda, and why groundnuts for Baipariguda were procured in Jeypore at all. Farmers allege direct corruption and have demanded a probe into the matter.

However, MARKFED and NAFED have not yet given any official statements on the issue.
