Kotpad,29th Aug 2025: Allegations have surfaced that sand is being mixed into urea and potash fertilizers and sold in the Kotpad area. This complaint was raised by farmers from Ghumar under Kotpad block, including Uddhab, who alleged that adulterated fertilizers were being supplied.
Farmers say they have been using urea and potash for years, but recently they have suspected adulteration. They claim that when fertilizers are dissolved in water and filtered, sand remains at the bottom, confirming their suspicion. Farmers stressed that such allegations must be investigated thoroughly.
“If these complaints are found to be true, then it is a serious matter,” farmers said. “We are constantly being cheated — from buying seeds, medicines, and fertilizers, to selling our produce in mandis. Governments keep changing, but the system remains the same.”
The Kotpad Farmers’ Association has demanded that if sand-mixed fertilizers are being sold, then the money of farmers should be refunded immediately, and strict legal action should be taken against the concerned companies and traders.
Local farmers have also alleged that fertilizers are not being sold at government-approved prices. Fertilizers that should be available at ₹350 are being sold at inflated rates of ₹800–₹1000 in the market.
