Bhubaneswar:15th Oct 2025:  Although this Senior Citizens’ Day was dedicated to acknowledging the contributions of the elderly in our society, we must remember and respect their role every day. Senior citizens are a priceless source of knowledge and experience. Their guidance plays a crucial role in building and developing a healthy society, said Minister for Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shri Nityananda Gond, while speaking at the State-Level Senior Citizens’ Day 2025, held at Ravindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar.

The event was organized under the auspices of the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD). Minister Gond stated that senior citizens have a significant role in realizing the vision of a developed India and achieving the goal of making India a global leader (Vishwaguru).

The government is aware of the challenges faced by the elderly and is taking appropriate measures to address them. By valuing their experiences and blessings across different sectors of society, we can certainly achieve our collective goals, the Minister added.

Bhubaneswar MLA Shri Babu Singh, attending as a guest of honour, remarked that society is bound by love and respect, and hence, it is the duty of every citizen to ensure the social and financial security of the elderly. He emphasized that elderly people are not a burden, and by embracing their wisdom, values, and blessings, we can lead more peaceful and meaningful lives.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shri Anchal Rana, another honoured guest, highlighted that senior citizens often face small but significant issues, many of which can be solved through community cooperation. The BMC, he assured, gives top priority to addressing the needs of the elderly.

He also mentioned that the government is implementing the “Baristha Bandana Yojana” (Senior Citizens’ Welfare Scheme) effectively and has established free health service centres in various locations to ensure medical care for them.
