Malkangiri : An awareness program on the dangers of intoxication and consumption of adulterated liquor was organized today jointly by the Malkangiri Excise Department and the District De-addiction Centre. Nirmal Chandra Dharua, District Social Security Officer of Malkangiri, attended as the chief guest and inaugurated the program. He emphasized the harmful effects of substance abuse in society and advised people to stay away from intoxicating substances and become more aware.
Among other guests, Dr. Hussain, DPHO of Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), discussed the various health problems caused by the consumption of intoxicants and encouraged the public to work together to eliminate substance abuse from society.
On behalf of SD, MSJ & EC, a special appeal was made to the women present to participate actively in this effort.
From the Excise Department, Tankadhar Bhoi, Excise Deputy Superintendent, highlighted the “Sankalp Rath – Nisha Nuhen Jiban” (Not Addiction, But Life) campaign initiated by the State Government. He appealed to people to avoid consumption of intoxicants and adulterated liquor, and to raise awareness among others as well.

Additionally, members of various self-help groups were also present and participated in the program. The event was coordinated by Umakanta Baliarsingh, Coordinator of the Kumutiguda District De-addiction Centre, who also delivered the vote of thanks at the end.
