Cuttack: Under the Prime Minister’s PM e-Vidya scheme, arrangements have already been made for students from Class 1 to Class 12 to receive education through DTH TV. As part of this, two special DTH channels are dedicated to primary and upper primary education, including two arts and science streams for secondary-level students.
To enhance the quality of education for students of Classes 9 and 10 through PM e-Vidya using DTH, a plan has been initiated to produce video lessons based on the curriculum. The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) is preparing to develop these videos with the help of experienced teachers. For this, a dedicated workshop was held today in the board’s conference hall. The workshop was inaugurated by Board Chairman Shri Jay Charan. Also present were Vice Chairman K. Nihar Ranjan Mahanti, Sariksha Intel’s Ashrita Preetinanda, Assistant Editor Anustika Bai, and Academic Officer Sushasha Mahapatra.
The experts discussed the teaching methodology to be adopted for the e-Vidya program for secondary students. Nine subjects for Classes 9 and 10 — Literature, English, Sanskrit, Biology, History, Geography, etc. — have been selected to be included in the video-based learning format. Once the experienced teachers finalize the content, the video recordings will be done at the Biju Patnaik Film and Television Institute.
Some teachers will also undergo training at NCERT, Delhi for this purpose. Currently, DTH Channels 138 and 139 are used for primary education from Classes 1 to 8. Similarly, for Classes 9 and 10, Channel 140 PRO and Channels 141 and 142 are assigned for arts and science streams respectively.
To ensure students benefit more from the PM e-Vidya system, DTH connections will be installed not only in primary schools but also in high schools and higher secondary schools (combined institutions). The government has also decided to provide ₹2000 to schools for this initiative.
The government is emphasizing online learning, and instead of traditional textbook teaching, teacher-led recorded lessons are being broadcast via DTH. However, there have been some shortcomings in subject content, which is why NCERT is now working towards developing error-free curriculum-based content for video lessons.
