Panikoi: Due to the intense heatwave, water sources are drying up, affecting both the public and wildlife. In response, the state government has been supplying water through taps in Panchayats. However, due to the negligence of the Electricity Department, more than three thousand people in the Panikoi Panchayat area are currently facing severe water scarcity. It is reported that the Panchayat continues to supply water via a pipeline under the Basudha scheme. Recently, employees of Tata disconnected an electricity pole without consulting the Panchayat in Ward No. 7, in front of Jagadishwar Mallik’s house. Following a complaint from Mr. Mallik, the Electricity Department removed the pole, but it damaged the water pipeline buried underground. As a result, the water supply through the pipe has been disrupted for two days.
The Tata employees are reported to be erecting poles wherever possible, regardless of the location, without considering whether it is a government or private property. Currently, while water supply is ongoing through pipelines in both rural and urban areas, the underground pipeline has been damaged. The Panchayat has reported this, but the Electricity Department did not provide any prior notice before erecting the pole. As a result, the water pipeline broke, causing extreme difficulties for the villagers in accessing water. There are now demands for the state government and the district authorities to take action against the Electricity Department.
