New Delhi,11th Nov 2025: The Cabinet Committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) or tenure for the Eighth Central Pay Commission. The commission’s recommendations, once implemented, will benefit around 50 lakh central government employees and 69 lakh pensioners. The Eighth Central Pay Commission is a temporary body.
The commission is expected to submit its report within 18 months.

According to Union Minister of Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, former Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai of the Supreme Court has been appointed as the chairperson. Professor Pulak Ghosh from IIM Bangalore has been appointed as a part-time member, and Pankaj Jain, Secretary of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has been appointed as a secretary.
The commission may also submit interim reports on other matters. Before making any recommendation, the commission will take into account the country’s economic situation and financial system.
