Bhubaneswar, 15th Nov 2025: The East Coast Railway has set a new milestone in freight transportation by achieving its highest loading and unloading performance for the periods of October 2025 and April–October 2025. This marks the highest-ever freight record in the history of the East Coast Railway.
In October 2025, the railway transported 23.58 million tonnes (MT) of goods, the highest for any October in the past, surpassing the previous record of 20.90 MT in October 2024—a 13% increase. For the first time, the East Coast Railway crossed the 23 million tonnes loading mark in a single October month.
From April to October 2025, cumulative freight loading reached 161.18 MT, exceeding the previous best of 144.47 MT during the same period last year, representing a growth of 16.71 MT (11.6%).
Along with this, the East Coast Railway also achieved its highest unloading performance, handling 144.02 MT, compared to 133.81 MT last year—an 8% increase.
Freight revenue also grew steadily, reaching ₹16,350.21 crore during April–October 2025, compared to ₹14,714.31 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an 11% significant growth.
This sustained growth is attributed to efficient planning, improved operational performance, and active coordination with customers in key sectors like coal, iron ore, finished steel, and fertilizer transportation.
This remarkable performance demonstrates the dedication of East Coast Railway employees, collective contributions, and the commitment to strengthening the country’s supply chain and economic progress.
