Malkangiri: Dr. Nihar Ranjan Mishra, the son of Subash Chandra Mishra, who was a primary school teacher in Kalimela block, was destined to become a doctor due to his father’s aspirations.
Born in Kalimela, Nihar completed his primary and high school education there before pursuing medical entrance exams. He succeeded and studied at SCB Medical College, Cuttack. After completing his medical education, he worked in various places and is now serving as a specialist in a private hospital.
Seven years ago, Brunda Golari, a resident of Puspali village in Korukonda block, Malkangiri district, became afflicted with an unknown disease that left her hands and legs non-functional. She was admitted to SCB Medical College, Cuttack. At that time, Nihar was studying and practicing medicine at SCB. Dr. Nihar and his team performed surgery on Brunda over a period of nearly a month.
While Brunda was undergoing treatment for six months, Dr. Nihar treated her like his own sister. Even after she returned to her village, he continued to support her financially by sending ₹5,000 every month. Additionally, he regularly checks in on her to understand her needs and difficulties.
Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Nihar has never stopped helping Brunda. He sends money through Kalimela block’s head teacher, Nabakishore Mallik, requesting him to ensure that Brunda receives assistance. Even today, he continues to send financial aid.
Brunda, though bedridden, feels proud to have a brother like him. She says that she does not feel helpless because of his support. She credits her survival to Dr. Nihar. His noble deeds have been widely appreciated in various circles.
