Sambalpur , 17th Nov 2025: Dr. Shankar Ramchandani, who has always been discussed for his care of patients and has served as an example for other doctors, is once again in the spotlight. Having come from Sohela Medical in Bargarh district, he has now joined Burla Big Hospital. For the month of March, he has waived his full salary of ₹68,000 for poor patients.
Regarding this, Prof. Manoj Mahapatra, President of the Bir Surendra Ayurvedic Science and Research Institute (BIMSAR), has been informed by letter that this amount has been donated for the welfare of BIMSAR patients.
On another note, he has also appealed to all MLAs, MPs, and senior government officials in the western region to extend their support to poor patients. He has shared this on his social media account (posted on Facebook).
Dr. Shankar Ramchandani’s response:
Ramchandani has stated that he has seen how poor patients struggle to get medical treatment since the day he started studying medicine. Of course, his waiving of one month’s salary will not completely remove the suffering of thousands of poor patients, but if everyone comes together, a change can happen. He describes this initiative as a small effort, like a tiny spark.
He further explained that the expenses for studying medicine in government medical colleges involve a contribution from the government. Therefore, waiving one month’s salary is not a favor but rather his social responsibility and duty.
