Nabarangpur,15th Oct 2025: To address traffic congestion in Nabarangpur town, the construction of a bypass road is currently underway. The 9.12-km-long bypass is being built with an allocated budget of Rs168.58 crore. The road will be a four-lane paved stretch as per National Highway standards, with approximately 8.5 km constructed as a two-lane road. For the construction, around 9,000 trees will be cut, according to reports.

The new bypass will connect from Daivatta village on NH-206, pass through District Judge Court, District Headquarters Hospital, and near the SP’s office in Majhiguda, finally linking back to the national highway near Patramunda village. The construction agreement was signed on 22 December 2024, and the completion deadline is set for January 2026.

The construction is being undertaken by Amiba Associates and JMBG Constructions. A total of 58.441 hectares of land will be acquired for this project — out of which 41.441 hectares are private land and 17 hectares are government land. So far, 90% of the private land has already been acquired.

Out of the Rs168.58 crore:

Rs60 crore is allocated for road construction,

Rs72.8 crore for land acquisition,

Rs3.5 crore for compensatory afforestation (tree plantation),

Rs90 lakh for new electric poles and electrification works.

The bypass route will include:

5 box culverts,

14 pipe culverts,

and elevated culverts only where absolutely necessary, as instructed by the local MP due to slow progress of construction in certain areas.

So far, soil work has been completed for about 3 km of the road.

The monitoring of this project has been overseen by:

District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain,

MLA Gaurishankar Majhi,

Executive Engineer of Works Department Er. Kshiradhar Kandhapani, and

NH SDO Surya Chhataria.

Surya Chhataria from the NH Kesinga Division stated that once the bypass is completed, the traffic congestion seen from Jagannath Mandir square to Sriram Mandir square in Nabarangpur town is expected to be significantly reduced.
