Nabarangpur, 12th Nov 2025: A district-level one-day training program on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was held at the Ashok Mehta Auditorium in Nabarangpur.
The program was attended by District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain, Chief Development Officer of the Zilla Parishad Viranchi Narayan Darwan, Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra, District Social Welfare Officer Droupadi Kahaar, Women Legal Officer Kishori Patnaik, along with D.I.P.R. Manoj Behera, D.W.O., and Rabindra Palka.
Women Legal Officer Kishori Patnaik (Sakhi) participated as a resource person and conducted the training. She provided special guidance on how women can take steps against perpetrators who inflict physical, sexual, verbal, mental, and financial abuse under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, how to approach protection officers, service providers, police, and magistrates, and how to seek assistance.
The session also highlighted prevalent issues in the district such as child marriage, teenage pregnancies, and violence against women, aiming to raise awareness on preventing these practices.
Participants included women police officers, four local police officials, ten child development project officers from ten blocks, three Sakhi employees, four personnel from two Shakti Dals, all employees of the District Women Empowerment Department, staff from Abhaya Sanstha, medical officers, and employees of the Child Marriage Prohibition Committee.
District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain emphasized that parents who are directly or indirectly responsible for the abuse of girls and women must be held accountable under exemplary punishment laws. He advised police to take strict action as a deterrent and encouraged showcasing successful adolescent girls as role models to prevent child marriage, domestic violence, and related issues.
At the conclusion of the program, Protection Officer Smt. Rama Patnaik expressed gratitude and formally ended the training session.
