Nabarangpur, Dec, 03: Every year, National Press Day is observed on November 16, and this year, it was celebrated in Nabarangpur as well. On this occasion, the district administration organized a discussion session with all local journalists at the Mission Shakti auditorium.
The chief guest was Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, while the guest of honor was Nabarangpur MLA Gauri Shankar Majhi. They emphasized the importance of journalist safety and discussed various necessary issues concerning the press with the government’s attention.
During the program, discussions were held on the changing nature of mass media. Journalists highlighted how, at various times, reporting brings important local issues to the attention of the administration and government, which helps in resolving these issues. However, journalists also face harassment and challenges at times, which they expressed needed attention from the authorities.
On National Press Day, journalists raised demands regarding their safety. Presidents and editors of various district-level journalist associations also shared their views.
In this context, representatives from Doordarshan News and Akashvani Jaypur emphasized the importance of trustworthy reporting, presenting accurate facts before delivering news, and understanding the role of journalism in social transformation.
The event was also attended by Municipal Chairperson Kunu Nayak, Additional District Collector Tapan Kumar Khuntia, Biji Kumar Mishra, Niranjan Mishra, Public Relations Officer Manol Kumar Behera, and representatives of various media outlets from all blocks of the district.
