District Administration Gears Up to Face Possible Cyclone ‘Montha’

Nabarangpur: 30th Oct 2025,  At the local Mission Shakti Sammilani Hall, a preparatory meeting was held under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain to ensure effective measures against the possible cyclone ‘Montha’

The meeting was attended by Additional District Collector (Revenue) Bishwajit Barman, Additional District Collector (General) Tapan Kumar Khuntia, CDO, Zilla Parishad Biranchi Narayan Darwan, Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra, all district-level departmental‘Montha’ heads, BDOs, Tahsildars, CPOs, executive officers, and municipal officials from Nabarangpur/Umarkot. Emergency officers like Geetanjali Behera also briefed participants on departmental preparedness measures.

During the meeting, the District Collector reviewed precautionary measures for cyclone and flood management, including:

  • Stockpiling of food and essential items
  • Arrangements for floodwater drainage
  • Assigning responsibilities to nodal officers for affected areas
  • Establishing control rooms
  • Clearing roads blocked by fallen trees or debris
  • Monitoring water levels and issuing warnings
  • Disseminating flood and cyclone alerts
  • Ensuring telephone and electricity supply
  • Provision of safe drinking water
  • Health and hygiene management
  • Veterinary care
  • Addressing agricultural issues
  • Arrangements at shelters for affected people
  • Identifying low-lying areas prone to flooding
  • Evacuation plans for vulnerable populations
  • Full preparedness at health centers
  • Coordination with ORAF teams, fire brigades, and other emergency services
  • Post-disaster road restoration, rescue, and relief operations
  • Ensuring supply of food, water, medicine, and cooked meals wherever needed

The District Collector directed all departmental officers to implement these measures and ensure effective coordination for successful disaster management.

At the block level, schools have been identified as temporary shelters, equipped with adequate JCBs, tractors, sandbags, and other construction materials. From 26th October to 30th October, the leave of government employees has been cancelled. All government, semi-government, and grant-aided schools will remain closed from 28th October to 30th October.
