Disaster Preparedness Drive Held in Kotpad

Kotpad : Under the chairmanship of Sandhyarani Samartha, Group Development Officer of Kotpad, a mock drill on disaster preparedness and local capacity assessment was organized at the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter in Sadaranga village.

The drill aimed at raising readiness and awareness to tackle natural disasters like floods and cyclones, with the goal of ensuring zero casualty and safeguarding lives and property. The ODRAF team demonstrated various life-saving techniques such as rescue from drowning, snakebite first aid, fire safety, and survival strategies during floods, cyclones, lightning strikes, and heatwaves.

The demonstration also included the operation and use of various equipment and tools available at the cyclone shelter.

Present at the event were the Block Health Officer, CDPO, GPEO, PO, CRP, MBK, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, ward members, and officials from various block and panchayat-level departments, along with volunteers from the CSNR organization.

The discussion focused on:

Enhancing inter-departmental coordination for village-level disaster management planning.

Ensuring all equipment and materials at the cyclone shelter are well-maintained and ready for timely deployment.

Taking appropriate measures to protect lives, livestock, property, and crops during disasters.

The program was efficiently coordinated by the president and secretary of the cyclone shelter committee.

Meghanad Behera, consultant from the State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), participated as an observer. He emphasized the importance of departmental coordination, early preparedness, and incorporating disaster management measures into development planning.
