Dhenkanal: Elephant Herd Takes Rest in Forest After Failing to Cross River

Dhenkanal: In the Mahabiroad forest area near Palsahi in Dhenkanal district, the water level of the Brahmani River rose significantly yesterday. As a result, a separated elephant calf was seen struggling to cross the river and was swept away by the strong current. After a long effort, the calf managed to reach the riverbank.

However, due to the strong current in the river, the entire elephant herd has been unable to cross from Palsahi to the Hindol forest area. The herd has thus remained in the forest near Palsahi.

Today, a group of around twenty elephants, including the calf, was seen resting inside the forest near Palsahi. Both the calf and the other elephants were observed lying down peacefully in the forest. With the river in spate, the elephants have stayed back near Palsahi, unable to make the crossing.
