Devotees Celebrate Mahashtami Puja at Harihar Temple, Chamundeshwari Peetha

K. Nuagaon – 4th Oct 2025:  At the Harihar Temple located in K. Nuagaon market, Kandhamal district, a nine-day long worship ceremony is held every year at the Chamundeshwari Peetha. The temple was established by the late Dr. Brindaban Chandra Das, and under the supervision of his son, Prafulla Chandra Das, the recitation of the Chandi Path has been continuously performed for the past 35 years.

According to traditional customs, the first day of the Puja begins with the ritual of bringing the Ganga water (Ganga Abahan). Daily worship includes cow worship, Surya (Sun) worship, Sala Puja, invocation of all gods and goddesses, homa (fire ritual), Chandi Path, and arati, continuing every day until Dussehra.

Specially today, on Mahashtami, the Chamundeshwari Peetha was beautifully decorated with 108 lotus flowers and adorned with Bel leaves as offerings.

In this ceremony, the priests from Belaguntha, Ganjam district—Pandit Dibakar Acharya and Chandan Kumar Satpathi—performed the Chandi Path.
