Deputy CM Prabhati Parida Reviews Progress of Subhadra Scheme in Kotia

Jeypore, 11th Aug 2025: Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida reviewed the implementation of the Subhadra Scheme in the disputed Kotia Panchayat. The scheme aims to reach every household in Kotia.

Kotia Panchayat, under Pottangi block in Koraput district, has long been at the centre of tension between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. While Andhra has been making aggressive efforts to claim Kotia, Odisha has been carrying out several developmental works there. Andhra has often made false promises, whereas Odisha has been consistently implementing welfare and development projects.

During her visit to Kotia, the Deputy Chief Minister interacted with local residents. Out of 2,078 women who applied for the Subhadra Scheme in Kotia Panchayat, 1,795 women have been enrolled. 174 applications are under processing, and some applications have been rejected.

However, there are women who hesitate to apply, fearing that if they join the scheme, they might lose benefits provided by Andhra. Poor network connectivity is also a major challenge, making it difficult for women to travel to Pottangi to submit applications.

The Deputy Chief Minister discussed these issues with officials and spoke to women about becoming self-reliant. She explained the concept of the “Lakhpati Didi” initiative, under which women can increase their income significantly. Many beneficiaries are already using the Subhadra funds for agriculture and small businesses. Women expressed enthusiasm about using the upcoming third instalment for farming and business expansion.

The state government has made Kotia a focus area, continuing developmental works despite Andhra’s intrusion. Locals said Andhra’s attempts pale in comparison to Odisha’s support, and affirmed that Kotia will remain part of Odisha regardless of offers from across the border.

With BJP governments currently in power in Odisha, Andhra, and at the Centre, many believe now is the best time to resolve the Kotia issue. Former MP Jayaram Pangi remarked that if the matter is not resolved now, it may never be settled. The government has been sending ministers from various departments to Kotia, and intellectuals hope that these efforts will help solve the long-standing problem.

It is expected that all eligible women in Kotia Panchayat will eventually join the Subhadra Scheme, and there are high hopes from the Deputy Chief Minister’s visit.
