Demand Rises for Establishment of a Medical College in Nayagarh

Dashapalla, Dec, 17:  Nayagarh is the central hub of the district, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that it lies at the midpoint of the surrounding regions—Kujamendi to the west, Badasilinga to the north, Fatehgarh and Rajsunakhala to the east, and Nuagaon–Kalasakhamana to the south. Information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act reveals that hundreds of acres of government land are available along National Highway–57 near Nayagarh town, much of which remains unused.

In terms of supporting infrastructure, the area already has hostels for students, a science college for the children of professors, banking services, telecommunication facilities, railway connectivity, and all district-level administrative offices. Considering these advantages, the Action Committee has decided that the medical college should be established at the district headquarters of Nayagarh itself.

At a meeting organized in this connection, several prominent personalities were present, including Nayagarh Action Committee convenor Godabari Sahu; Rotarian Srikanti Khatei; BJP leader Santosh Pradhan; journalist Anwar Ali; the Dashapalla Block Chairperson; the NAC Chairperson; the President of the Banik Mahasangha; the President of Utkal Sammilani; the President of the Press Club; the President of the Senior Citizens’ Forum; the President of the Durga Bazaar Committee; the Secretary of the Gathana Parivar; MP’s representative Kishore Dalabehera; women leader Sanjukta Dasgupta; and noted writer Hadibandhu Mahakhuda, among others.

To intensify the movement, a 21-member committee was formed. The committee has resolved to carry out a peaceful agitation in the coming days to press the demand for establishing the medical college at Nayagarh district headquarters.
