Tikiri: The demand for granting block status to Tikiri village in Kashipur block has gained strength. Although the government has issued a proposal to recognize Tikiri as a Notified Area Council (NAC), the local residents are reportedly not in favor of this move.
A meeting was held today in the Tikiri Panchayat office hall, presided over by Sarpanch Jagabandhu Majhi. Several notable figures attended the meeting, including Block Chairman Kantha Majhi, MLA representative Jikuru Majhi, and MP representative Sandhu Charan Majhi.
During the meeting, the Sarpanch informed attendees about the official communication regarding Tikiri’s NAC status. However, local residents believe that 12 surrounding panchayats, including Bilamala and Akhapada, would benefit more if Tikiri were granted block status instead of NAC recognition.
A proposal for forming a new block in Tikiri has already been under consideration. In this regard, locals have decided to submit a memorandum to the Governor and Chief Minister, as well as demand action from the block administration and district authorities. If their demand is not met, they plan to launch a protest.
Several prominent individuals participated in the meeting, including lawyer Upendra Majhi, Dudukabahal Sarpanch Saras Majhi, Gorakhpur Sarpanch Lakshman Majhi, retired government employee Ramanath Majhi, and members of the Block Reorganization Committee like Shivaram Majhi, Shankar Duria, Shankar Tripathy, Tank Jhoria, Baidi Majhi, Paili Majhi, Govind Majhi, Joseph Khosla, Javed Bhatara, and Muna Behera from the Tikiri Merchants’ Association.
In the past, the government conducted surveys and even prepared a map for the new block, but despite several years passing, no action has been taken. If the block is formed, it will benefit not just Tikiri but also neighboring areas.
