Dabugaon: The state highway from Birisholata to Dhodora under Dabugaon police limits in Nabarangpur district will soon undergo widening. The project, estimated at around ₹39 crore, has completed the tender process, and two contracting agencies are set to finalize agreements. The road work is expected to commence within a few days.
The upcoming project will transform the existing road into a 4-lane highway, stretching from Kanyashram to the Fire Department Office. However, this development is likely to lead to the displacement of some local residents and businesses along the roadside, who have been living and operating there for years.
With the expansion, the current State Highway-39 will double in width. Dabugaon’s growing population and increasing vehicular traffic have caused persistent traffic congestion, especially around key areas like the Tarinini Temple Square, the daily market, and the block office. The 4-lane highway is expected to resolve these traffic issues significantly.
The stretch from Dabugaon Agriculture Office to the Block Office—currently congested with residential and commercial establishments—will see major relief post-expansion. The Public Works Department (PWD) has already been widening the road from Dabugaon’s main Tarinini Temple Square to Manigaon and Borigaon. Several shops and houses along the roadside are already in a dilapidated state, and with the new widening project, many old structures are expected to be demolished.
The road widening project from Dabugaon Birishola (State Highway-39) to Dhodora under Jharigaon Block will officially commence soon. Two contractors will be responsible for the work, with a completion timeline of two years set by the department.
One contractor will manage the stretch from Birishola to the Dabugaon Fire Department Office, while another will handle the road from the Fire Department Office to Dhodora under Jharigaon Block. This expansion will cover approximately 30 km, significantly reducing traffic congestion in the region.
The road from Dabugaon Kanyashram to the Fire Department Office will see smoother traffic flow post-widening, benefiting both daily commuters and local businesses.
