Bhubaneswar, 28th Oct 2025: : A low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal has intensified today into a depression in the southeastern Bay of Bengal. It is gradually moving west-northwest and is expected to intensify further, becoming a deep depression by Sunday. By Monday morning, it is likely to strengthen further and transform into a cyclonic storm (named Mocha) in the southwestern and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, moving gradually northwestwards.
It is expected to gain further strength and become a severe cyclone by the 28th, continuing to move northwestwards, and by the evening or night of the 28th, it may take a formidable shape (‘Mokta’).
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is likely to cross the coast near Kakinada, between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam. Meanwhile, the cyclone may also affect parts of Odisha.
