Koraput, 11th Nov 2025: The cyclone “Mocha” has caused extensive damage to tourist destinations in Koraput district. The Eco Retreat at Putsil in Semiliguda block was completely blown away by strong winds.

Power supply has been disrupted. The agency managing the Eco Retreat has informed the Tourism Department about the damage and reconstruction work has already begun. The administration has provided all necessary assistance, and the Eco Retreat is expected to be operational from November 15.

Similarly, extensive damage has been reported at Girilimali and Talmali tourist sites, including cottages built by private organizations. The heavy rain and strong winds destroyed cottages, main gates, guard walls, and electric poles.

At Putsil Eco Retreat, which had been constructed with help from a private agency and the Tourism Department, 28 cottages were destroyed by the cyclone. Electric poles for power connection were also blown down, leaving the site without electricity. Restoration has been ordered, and the retreat is expected to reopen for tourists from November 15 to February 15.

During the cyclone, employees at the site moved to safe locations to protect their lives, while the strong winds raged over the hill for about two hours. Koraput District Tourism Officer Talina Pradhani has discussed the damage with officials for immediate action.

In Talmali, a tree fell on the main road of the coffee garden, blocking traffic, but villagers cleared it, and the road is now open. Considering the cyclone’s impact, all tourist sites in the district were closed to visitors until October 30.

During the cyclone, Semiliguda block recorded 39.1 mm of rainfall, and after the cyclone made landfall in Andhra Pradesh, its effects were seen in Koraput district along the Andhra border.
