Cuttack: The Forest Department had planted thousands of saplings along both sides of the Cuttack-Paradip road, spending lakhs of rupees. As these saplings grew into large trees, they caught the attention of the timber mafia, who are now cutting them down in broad daylight.

Additionally, Tata Power employees, under the pretext of installing electric wires, have allegedly felled thousands of trees. A 11KV power line is being installed along the Cuttack-Paradip highway. Without permission from the Forest Department and the Roads & Buildings Division, Tata Power workers have been cutting down many trees, leaving them destroyed.

Millions of trees were planted along the road from Gatiroutpada to Kujang to enhance roadside aesthetics and provide shade for pedestrians during summer. However, locals are now demanding strict action from the authorities against this illegal deforestation.
