Baranga,22nd July 2025: Two cut and abandoned electric poles are posing a serious threat to the public in the Anand Bazaar area of Baranga. These hazardous poles are located about 50 meters from the Baranga police station junction at the Golai Square of Anand Bazaar.
During road widening work, two iron electric poles remained in the middle of the old and new road alignment. After the nearby poles were cut down, the cement bases of the poles protruding onto the road were left behind without removal. This has become a danger for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders.
In the evening hours, people commuting by bike or bicycle, unaware of the protruding cement blocks, have collided with them and sustained injuries. Locals have demanded that the cement bases left behind after cutting the iron poles be removed and the road surface leveled properly.
When contacted, an official from the Electricity Department claimed that the poles belonged to a previous department, and not to them. On the other hand, a P.W.D. (Public Works Department) engineer said, although the poles are under the Electricity Department’s jurisdiction, steps will be taken to remove the protruding cement bases in the interest of public safety.
