Bhubaneshwar,8th Nov 2025: A small child, about 8 years old, tied a magnet to a string and dipped it into the Bindu Sagar pond, letting it float in the water. He kept it in the water for some time, and when checked, he had successfully picked up some coins with the magnet. Carefully pulling it out of the water, two or three coins were stuck to it, which he then put into his pant pocket. Upon counting, the coins were worth around 100–200 rupees.
This scene was not only at Bindu Sagar but also today at Kuakhai, Daya River, Rameshwar, Koti Tirtheshwar, Suksheshwar, Megheshwar, Chintamanishwar, and Kedargouri temple ponds.
Every year during the Boita Bandana festival, small children like these come and dip into the water to collect coins. Usually, children from nomadic or local settlements perform such stunts. The notable point is that while searching for coins, there is a real risk—one could slip or fall into the deep waters. Yet, despite such dangers, no one stops or watches over them, and the children dive into the water fearlessly, determined to find the coins.
