Nabarangpur, 5th Nov 2025: A crucial meeting regarding the selection of cultural troupes for the Mondei Festival 2025 was organized by the District Cultural Council on October 30, 2025, at 5:30 PM in the Ashok Mehetta Conference Hall of the District Collector’s Office.
The meeting discussed the cultural programs to be held during the main Mondei Festival celebrations, scheduled for November 7 to 9, 2025. The session was chaired by Mr. Tapan Kumar Khuntia, Additional District Magistrate (General) and Chairman of the Committee.
Discussions focused on organizing cultural evenings on all three days of the festival, featuring local and invited cultural troupes from within and outside the district. It was decided that from all 10 blocks of the district, the best-performing cultural groups would be selected with the help of the Block Art and Culture House Vice-Chairpersons and Block Development Officers (BDOs) and then forwarded to the selection committee.
It was also unanimously agreed that each performance would have a maximum duration of 15 minutes.
Further discussions included selecting folk dance troupes from districts such as Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, and Puri, along with traditional dance troupes from other states such as Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, and Kerala to perform during the three-day festival. The final list of troupes will be decided in the next meeting.
All members unanimously assigned Mr. Kartik Bhatra, Vice-President of the District Art and Cultural Association, the responsibility of coordinating five nights of continuous theatre performances during the Mondei Festival.
It was also decided that new Mondei-themed songs will be composed for the opening musical sessions, and no previous songs or performances will be repeated. Furthermore, solo dances and laser shows will not be allowed, based on the advice of Mr. Biswajit Barman, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue), a decision which received unanimous approval.
The meeting was convened and conducted by Mr. Ghasiram Harit Harijan, District Cultural Officer, who also serves as the Member Secretary of the Cultural Troupe Selection Committee. Mr. Manoj Kumar Behera, District Information and Public Relations Officer, and other committee members attended and assured their full cooperation in organizing the cultural programs for Mondei 2025.
